Halyard R & D pays off big time in big breeze
Working closely with our industry partners ENGLISH BRAIDS,
we have been pleased to have been chosen to trial on their behalf a
range of new Technora Covered Dyneema cordage.
Introducing 50% Technora into the jacket provides the line with important
additional properties. Initially introduced to provide protection against
heat build up, the Technora (part of the Aramid family) provides the
line with increased abrasion characteristics and is regarded as potentially
the best all round mix for ocean going race boats.
We have trialed 10mm for our Main Halyard and Runner Tails
through the Regatta season with fantastic results. During our first
season we were running with existing cordage that was already fitted
to the boat. This had led to curtailing a few races during the 2009
season due to outer cover breakage.
With the new Technora covered range we have had a trouble free season.
The performance and durability of the Technora has given us a lot more
confidence in our hardware and allowed us to concentrate a lot more
on the boats performance.
For us this Resulted in a great 3rd place overall result in IRC 1 at Torbay Week 2010.
